Improvement

Investment Horizon

Improvement is about continuous improvements and innovation in a company's current products.

Investment Horizons: Maintenance β€’ Improvement β€’ Extension β€’ Disruption

Purpose

Improvement (or Horizon 1) is about continuous improvements and innovation in a company's current products.

Horizon 1 represents those core businesses most readily identified with the company name and those that provide the greatest profits and cash flow. Here, the focus is on improving performance to maximize the remaining value.

Horizon 1 is analogous to Horizon 0 in that it represents the company's flagship operations. However, rather than merely restoring or maintaining, the emphasis here is on enhancement. Efforts under this horizon are directed towards refining processes, innovating within existing frameworks, and making improvements to further boost profits and cash flows. It's about taking what's already effective and making it even better.

Notes

The four focus areas in the unFIX model allow you to annotate your organization design to clarify what happens where. Which teams are responsible for Maintenance and Improvement? Where does Extension take place in the company? And does management give sufficient attention to Disruption in the same Base, or do you expect other Bases to take care of this?
