Self-Similar Scaling

The unFIX model is a fractal model. It is self-similar across scale.

Self-Similar Scaling: ClusterCoalitionLeagueCrowdAssemblyCongressDomainRealm

Purpose

The unFIX model is a fractal model. It is self-similar across scale.

The patterns in this Scaling set are mostly theoretical. It is hard (if not impossible) to find examples of enterprises that have scaled as true networks. However, using simple logic, it is possible to extrapolate what a networked enterprise could look like. We include these patterns in the model not as a way of showing people how it has been done, but how it might be done.

Notes

Note: The seven Crew Types should also apply to Clusters and Coalitions; the ten Forum Types could also apply to Assemblies and Congresses, and the four Base Types might apply to Leagues and Crowds. However, adding all these different types would result in a rather pointless overload of the model (not to mention an unmanageable explosion of useless cards and web pages). In this case, we believe fewer is better.

We must emphasize that what is described here is (sadly) mostly theoretical. There are very few networked organizations showing self-similar patterns across scale. However, we hope that organization designers interested in scaling organizations in a fractal manner will find some inspiration in these ideas.

Rules / Constraints

  • We have not yet defined any rules or constraints.
